I wrote an article recently on steampunk shopping for Voodoo Extreme Magazine and I started in
Rivet Town. I acquired several great steampunk shopping landmarks from a local Rivet Town burlesque dancer, as I was anxious to get away from Steam Forge and really find the hidden treasures of steampunk. So because my article was about steampunk shopping, I couldn't really focus on my impression of Rivet Town, and it deserves a blog post all by itself. This burgeoning role-play community focuses on Steampunk and the Victorian era. Rivet Town has two sections, North and East. Both sections have shopping villages and are attached via a waterway and bridge. The tp-in point for Rivet Town is the train terminal. This is where I received my visitor tag, and chose my destination. I began my visit in Rivet Town East. East is slightly more steampunk and "common" and North is slightly more victorian and aristocratic. I walked along the streets and saw shops for apparel, timeless jewelry, fine curiosities, gadget belts, and vehicles. Joining Rivet Town East and North, and sitting on the waterway, is Rustic, an old factory-turned-shopping center. Here you can find many shops offering items to enhance your Steampunk role-play experience such as campfires, furniture, scripted medical supplies and more. What I like about Rivet Town are the lovely colors and flowers and overall beauty. It's a nice immersive experience, even for those who aren't there to role-play. It's just a good place for snapshots, modeling shoots and generally being nosy. :)
TP arrival: The train station.
I started out in Rivet Town East. I met a nice man who served as my tour guide. He offered to give me a scenic lift to the North side.
This is the interesting steam-powered blimp vehicle that transported me to the other end of Rivet Town. The man's vehicle accomodates his wheelchair. I asked him what unfortunate event caused him to be disabled and he explained that as a scientist, he got carried away with his work.
