Krissy has been doing some very interesting project work lately. Meet Alayna. She is my alt. I created her back in early 2007, just four months after I entered SL. I was still very confused about skins and shapes and had a lot of fear that I would jack mine up, so I created her as my "test alt" for demos. After I figured out what I was doing, she went dormant. Fast forward to 2009. I'm writing for my own blog, and was also writing for What The Fug? And consistantly WTF? features those hootchie-mama types with body oil and barely-there clothes. And it occurred to me that, not only do I have no idea where they shop, but I have no sense of hootchie wardrobe styling. *light bulb moment* What would it be like to just let go of my inhibitions and BE A HOOTCH? There began a fun adventure as I woke up Alayna. Who would have guessed that WTF? would inspire me to BE MORE LIKE the featured targets? Ha! It's interesting too, that there was an unintended but positive consequence to this whole mission. I recaptured that sense of challenge, confusion and wonder that we go through as new residents. As established residents, we know which skin designers, hair makers, clothing designers and clubs we like and don't like. We know which AO's we prefer, where to get the best dances and prefabs. But when we reinvent ourselves, those likes/dislikes lose their justification. We begin to look for new likes/dislikes/favorites based on our new incarnation. And herein lies the challenging, confused "new resident" feeling all over again. In my case,
Twisted & Spoiled became a favorite store for Alayna. The style is over-the-top hootch, but with super good quality. And the prim belts and necklaces are Too. Die. For. Alayna also discovered
*League*. Wow! What a find! But every friend I shared my new discovery with said "Oh I go there a lot". Pfff. Ok then.
Hailing a taxi at Rainy Town. This fringe skirt from *League* is really cute, Krissy actually bought it as well. The boots are also from *League*. The shirt is from Twisted & Spoiled and I can't remember where the Peg Bundy hair is from. (I don't care if it looks like Peg Bundy as I've been told on two occasions, I quite like it).
Can't see it well in this picture, but the Hello Kitty necklace and Cheshire belt from Twisted & Spoiled are soooo cute.
The fur bolero is from CoCo, sequined swimsuit top is Armidi as are the Jordyn shorts. I can't remember where this hair is from either.
I'm being very ornery here. This couple stood near each other the entire time I adjusted my prims, my windlight settings and took some pics. Sooo... I decided to walk up to the guy. I stood about as close as I could. Then started going through inventory. I could only imagine what their IM convo must have been like.
Girl: Is she IMing you??
Guy: No
Girl: Are you sure? Why is she just standing there? What's she saying??
Guy: Nothing I swear! I don't know why she's standing here!
Ha! Alayna is SUCH an instigator! Shame on her, Krissy would
never do that! ;)
I don't plan to let Alayna go dormant this time. I'm having a lot of fun with her, exploring new styles and generally being nosy. Because there's no way in the world I could stifle that, no matter what incarnation I take. :) If you decided to reinvent yourself in SL, what direction would you take?
